United Petroleum Transports (UPT) provides transportation for the chemical and energy markets, focusing on refined products such as gasoline and diesel fuels, aviation fuels, lube oils, crude oil, and asphalt. The company has been family-owned and -operated since 1966. Its corporate office is in Oklahoma City, and it has 14 satellite locations in Arizona, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Texas. UPT is also looking to new and expanding markets.

UPT conducts business primarily in the southwestern United States, but is permitted to operate in all of the lower 48 states and Canada. On average, the company is responsible for hauling more than 1,000 loads a day, with annual revenues over $80 million. UPT has 615 drivers, including both company drivers and lease operators, and roughly 150 support and administrative staff.

UPT’s largest HR need is to hire, train, and retain safe professional drivers. Many of the company’s drivers have served in the military. The company likes to hire veterans because they are self-disciplined, mature, and require little supervision. They understand chain of command, adherence to personal safety and policy, and pay attention to detail – critical in a hazardous-material environment.
