Veteran Employee Story – Steve Toomey

As a corpsman for 12 years and a medical services administrative officer for eleven years in the Navy, Steve Toomey helped keep sailors and Marines healthy. Now he helps  |esources professional for ten years. For the past three years, he has managed military recruiting at CSX Transportation, where he finds veterans for craft and management opportunities. Prior to CSX, Toomey worked as a federal contractor for URS Corporation, as a human resource generalist, supporting over 300 employees in Florida and the Mideast. Toomey also was a Disabled Veteran Outplacement Program Representative (DVOP) for the state of Florida for four years, where he helped transition disabled veterans from active duty. He also served as a facilitator for the Navy Transition Assistance Program at Naval Air Station Jacksonville.

Now Toomey sells veterans on the benefits of CSX Corporation, which provides rail, intermodal,  and rail-to-truck transload services. Based in Jacksonville, the company’s transportation network connects customers to ports, production, and distribution centers and markets across the eastern United States.
