Mark “Crash” Green  is now a clinical technician III at Life Center of Galax, Virginia, a facility of CRC Health Group. He supports clinicians, facilitates lectures, interacts one-to-one with patients, and handles charting and patient-record retention.

Green was a seaman in the Navy, serving as a cryptologic technician operator. He holds a bachelor’s degree in substance abuse counseling, and has worked at the center for six years. “I feel that I am still called to serve my country, but now as a civilian with a new career in the field of substance abuse,” he said.

Life Center of Galax is an inpatient substance abuse treatment facility that offers numerous benefits and opportunities for veterans. Careers there can include medical and professional counseling staff, support staff, and environmental personnel. The center currently employs 150 full- time, part-time, and on-call staff. A 60-bed expansion is scheduled for completion in 2013.

Green gives his military experience a lot of credit for his success at the center. “The military gave me structure, discipline, and verbal and non-verbal communication skills,” he said. “I also obtained the ability to lead a group through necessary interaction required during squad communication. These skills have been very beneficial to me in my responsibilities with the Life Center of Galax.”
