BNSF operates nearly 400 different railroad lines that merged or were acquired over the course of 160 years. Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, BNSF Railway operates one of the largest railroad networks in North America. The network covers 32,000 miles in 28 states and two Canadian provinces.
In 2010, BNSF hauled 1,058,000 carloads of agricultural commodities, including enough grain to supply 900 million people with a year’s supply of bread. Also, the coal hauled by BNSF powers one out of every ten homes in the nation. In 2010, 4.3 million truck trailers or containers moved along BNSF’s rail lines.
